Kalimna Park Croquet Club member Ken Bald is the 2011 Sports Star of the Year.
Ken has been thereabouts over many years on the Wimmera sporting scene for his achievements in the croquet world, but finally has cracked it for the big one after another outstanding year on the croquet lawns, locally, state wide and nationally. Not only has Bald excelled himself, he is also responsible for coaching two of the state’s best players in Robert and Greg Fletcher from Lismore, and gives back to the sport as chief hoop setter for both the Australian and World Croquet Associations. Bald won the Division 1 Country Regional Championship in Horsham and has continued to show strong and consistent form. Bald was one of eleven players from around Australia invited to participate in the prestigious ‘Armstrong Memorial Tournament’ at the Brighton Club in South Australia. At the completion of the tournament, Bald was able to walk away with a 10 – 1 record and finish the tournament ahead of some tough opposition. Bald has now lifted his ranking to number two in Victoria and number four in Australia and 16 in the world.
