Jannik has had a fantastic year playing Wheelchair Basketball. He is a key player in the National Wheelchair Basketball League with the Dandenong Rangers, with Jannik having a consistent year. His finest achievement was representing Australia in the U/23 World Championships in France in July this year. Jannik was the youngest player in the team only being seventeen during the tournament playing against opponents five years older than him. The Australian team finished fourth overall coming agonisingly close to winning a bronze medal by losing to Sweden by just one point.
Jannik recently was selected in the National team again to play in the World Championship tournament in Melbourne later this year having gained a tremendous amount of experience in his previous national campaign. Jannik has had tremendous success this year personally, being named in the All Star 5 for the National League and being named the Dandenong Rangers Best Defender for the season. Juggling Year 12 commitments this year Jannik has become a star of Wheelchair Basketball and is a worthy winner of this month Sports Star Award.
Monthly winners are eligible to win the $1,000 Sports Star Scholarship and trophy at the 2010 Horsham Sports and Community Club’s Sports Star presentations. All nominees in the monthly award will be presented with certificates signed by the Minister for Sport and Recreation, James Merlino, and the monthly winner receives (aside from the jacket and voucher), a free ticket to the annual presentation and a specially struck medallion from Wimmera Trophies and Gifts.
