St Arnaud Hockey player Sherridyn Coleman is July’s finalist in the 2009 Horsham Sports and Community Club Sports Star of the Year Award. Seventeen year old Sherridyn will receive an embroidered Sports Star of the Year jacket courtesy of DAGS Quality Screen Printing and a voucher from Hip Pocket Work wear for being the successful monthly winner.

Sherridyn is the ultimate team person and has achieved tremendous success in hockey, a sport she has been playing for nine years. Her major achievement this year is being selected for the Victorian under 17 Girls Hockey Team to compete in Singapore and Malaysia in September.

Sherridyn is not only a star player but is also a successful junior coach by taking her Birchip- Watchem team to Premiership success in 2008. Sherridyn is considered a role model to younger members of the St Arnaud hockey team and is a leader in for her local team. She has won a host of awards including most reliable, best team player, most improved and runner up best and fairest in 2008.

Her competitive goals for the next 12 months are to coach her junior hockey team to the top of the ladder in Season 2009. She also hopes to achieve success in her own career by aiming to win the Women’s Grand Final in the North Central League later this month and aims to win the State Secondary Schools Grand Final in Melbourne at the end of August. Her main goal and what she is most looking forward too, is going to Singapore and Malaysia to compete at an International
level, she hopes to gain all the experience she can to improve her game and further her career in hockey.

Monthly winners are eligible to win the $1,000 Sports Star Scholarship and trophy at the 2010 Horsham Sports and Community Club’s Sports Star presentations.  If you know of someone who is doing well at their sport and deserves some recognition, why not nominate them in the DAGS Screen Printing and Hip Pocket Workwear Sports Star of the Month. 

All nominees in the monthly award will be presented with certificates signed by the Minister for Sport and Recreation, James Merlino, and the monthly winner receives (aside from the jacket and voucher), a free ticket to the annual presentation and a specially struck medallion from Wimmera Trophies and Gifts.
