Warracknabeal Trap and Skeet Club member Trent Orval has taken out the November Award in the Horsham Sports and Community Club Sports Star of the Year.  Trent’s scores at the Victorian Clay Target Association State Championships in November placed him the second highest junior shooter in Victoria and qualified him for selection in the 6 person Victorian Junior Clay Target Interstate team.  This team then shot 25 targets each on a point score system, with the results to be compared with all other states at the 2009 Australian Clay Target Association National Championships. Trent shot 75 from 75 and was awarded the Team High Gun sash.

His results mean he is now part of the Victorian Junior Team which will compete at the Under 18 National Championships in Roma Queensland in March 2009 in the ‘shoulder to shoulder’ event.   A good result here will see him vie for Australian selection to participate in New Zealand later next year.

Trent has had great results at various Wimmera Club Shoots including winning the Junior High Gun event at the Central Wimmera Clay Target Club Carnival.  He was a member of the Warracknabeal Secondary College Clay Target Shooting Team which won the Wimmera Secondary Schools Sports Association (WSSSA) team event and individually he was the winner of the Senior Boys Section.

After four years in the sport, Trent is indeed aiming high and with new trap facilities installed at his club thanks to VicHealth’s Active Club Grants 2007 and the hard work of volunteer members, he hopes to make an impact and put his club and town ‘on the map’.

With a resume that also shows his prowess with football, cricket, athletics and cross country, Trent is a true all rounder and it with great anticipation that the region looks towards his results at the Nationals next March.

Trent joins Steve Schultz, Phil Butsch, Levi Burns, Lachlan King and Joel Ladlow as previous winners of the monthly awards who are eligible to win the $1,000 Sports Star Scholarship and trophy at the Monday February 16, 2009 presentation to be held at the Horsham Sports and Community Club .  If you know of someone who is doing well at their sport and deserves some recognition, why not nominate them in the DAGS Screen Printing and Hip Pocket Workwear Sports Star of the Month.

All nominees in the monthly award will be presented with certificates signed by the Minister for Sport and Recreation, James Merlino, and each monthly winner receives (aside from the jacket and voucher), a free ticket to the annual presentation and a specially struck medallion from Wimmera Trophies and Gifts.

Nominations are welcome at any time and forms are available from the Sports Assembly 5382 4599 or log onto www.wrsa.org.au   A reminder that the Special Category awards (teams, coaches, veterans etc)  are welcome at any time and will be presented alongside the Horsham Sports and Community Club Sports Star of the Year to be held on Monday February 16, 2009.
