SPORTS STAR OF THE YEAR 2007 - ASHLEY BOLWELL
Captain of the Australian Glenn Cup Shooting Team to compete against New Zealand next month, Ashley Bolwell, has been announced the winner of the Horsham Sports and Community Club’s Wimmera Sports Star of the Year Award.
A superb 88 from 88 at the Central Victorian Grand Prix Double Barrel event last year set the scene for Ashley to come under the notice of National selectors and his recent form has only added to these credentials. His travels around Victoria and interstate to compete in a variety of shoots have netted him some fine results including the Double A Grade and the High Gun events at the South Australian Championships last month and the Points Score and High Gun at the Bendigo Australia Day Championships.
A member of the Central Wimmera Clay Target Club and the Victorian State team, Ashley is a most modest winner of the award who attributes his success to the influence of his dad who got him into the sport at a young age and the support of his wife who has shared his enthusiasm for the discipline. He also thanked his club members for their encouragement and is looking forward to representing his country with pride.
