Jannik Blair, recently selected in the National Wheelchair Basketball Under 23 team to represent Australia in the World Championships in 2009, has been successful in winning the Sports Star of the Month Award for November.  He has been playing basketball this past season with the Dandenong Rangers in the National Wheelchair Basketball League and was part of the team that won the Silver Medal at the Junior Australian Basketball Championships in October.

Showing his multi sports talents, Jannik won the Mens Singles and Doubles Table Tennis titles at the Oceania Games in Darwin earlier this year, won Victorian Championships in the same events in Geelong and the Mens Open Singles, Under 20 Singles and Mens Doubles at the Junior Nationals in Sydney in October.  Jannik is the only Australian male having a world ranking in Table Tennis.  Whilst in Sydney for the Junior National Jannik also took out the Gold Medal in Mens Doubles for Tennis – a remarkable feat for someone of his youthful years.  Locally Jannik has undertaken a coaching role with the Active After Schools Communities Program teaching Primary school aged students the rudiments of table tennis.

Jannik now joins other previous monthly winners Betty Cozens (Lawn Bowls), Ashley Bolwell (Shooting), Josh Pahl (Golf), Tristan Barrett (Hockey), Lachie Robinson (Volleyball), Susan McKenry (Equestrian), Helen Kelly (Swimming) and Jake Roberts (Football)  in line to win the overall title of Sports Star of the Year and collect the Horsham Sports and Community Club Title of Wimmera Sports Star of the Year as well as the $1,000 Sports Star scholarship.
