Lachie Robinson wins the Dags Quality Screen Printing and Hip Pocket Workwear Sports Star Of The Month Award for August 2007
A young man who has to overcome serious adversity has been successful in winning the Sports Star of the Month Award for August. Horsham Volleyballer Lachie Robinson spent the majority of last year recovering from a road accident and returned to his chosen sport of volleyball with an increased commitment to training. At just seventeen years of age Lachie has taken on the captaincy of Horsham Secondary Schools Sports Association Senior Team which this year won the State title from 64 other schools and that of the Horsham Mens team which took out Division 2 at the 2007 Warrnambool Seaside Tournament.

His selection as team captain is an indication of the high esteem in which his team mates and peers hold him and he is looking forward to taking part in a number of events later this year – the well credentialed Horsham Tournament in November and the National Schools Cup in December.
At the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships Lachie was named the Most Valuable Player for the Victorian Gold Under 19 Team – an honour which he rates very highly. |
Association Coach David Berry says, “Since Lachie’s return to the sport he has shown a maturity beyond his years. He has lead from the front at all trainings, always encouraging his teammates, and driving them to be the best they can. The fact that Lachie could have been a member of the Victorian Blue team, which eventually became gold medalists at the National Championships, but chose to go with the Gold team underlines his selflessness and the regard he has for his academic career, and his teammates in country Victoria, who made up the Gold team. All Lachie’s achievements came at a stage of his career, when he still wasn’t fully fit, once again underlining the strength of character Lachie has.”
Lachie now joins other previous monthly winners Betty Cozens (Lawn Bowls), Ashley Bolwell (Shooting), Josh Pahl (Golf), Tristan Barrett (Hockey) and Jake Roberts (Football) in line to win the overall title of Sports Star of the Year and collect the Horsham Sports and Community Club Title of Wimmera Sports Star of the Year as well as the $1,000 Sports Star scholarship.
