The Annual Horsham Sports and Community Club's Sports Star of the Year Award is held in February each year. This gala presentation highlights the achievements of many of the Wimmera's finest sports people who are all hoping to add their name to an illustrious list of previous Sports Star Of The Year Award recipients.

Athletes of the calibre of Olympic and world champion cyclist Shane Kelly, former international motor cycling ace Kevin Magee, World Junior Cycling Champion Jason Niblett, dual World Rogaining Champion Rob Taylor and World Junior Champion basketballer Aaron Bruce are among those who have had the honour of being named the Wimmera’s finest.

The Award carries trophies and a $1,000 Sports Star Scholarship, courtesy of the Horsham Sports and Community Club, which the recipient can use to further their sporting career. All clubs, supporters and individuals are welcome to nominate someone who is doing well in their particular sport and deserves recognition for their efforts.

Nominations are invited at any time and can be forwarded to the Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly. Monthly Award winners will be announced during the year and will receive a Monthly Award sponsored by Dags Quality Screen Printing and Hip Pocket Workwear and Safety. All Monthly Award winners are invited to attend the annual presentation free of charge where they will be presented with a specially designed medallion (thanks to Wimmera Trophies and Gifts) and an inscribed certificate to mark their association with this most prestigious award.

The Horsham Sports and Community Club Sports Star of the Year Award continues to develop and now encompass a number of categories including the Saxton Rural Pty Ltd. ‘Administrator/Official of the Year’, Wimmera Trophies and Gifts "Club of the Year", Atlas Fuels 'Team of the Year', Bird Crane Hire ‘Coach of the Year’, Barham Insurance Agencies ‘Unsung Hero’ of the Year, UBWestVic Academy of Sport "Junior Athlete of the Year" (under the age of 15 years), Tylers Hardware and Rural Supplies 'Veteran of the Year', Ross Both and Associates Wimmera Eye Care Sporting School of the Year, Goolum Goolum 'Koori Sports Star Award' , Access for All Abilities '"Sports Star of the Year Award'' (for special needs athletes), Wimmera Mail Times "Women In Sport" Award, & the 3WM Tom Gawith Sportsmanship Award.

Nominees in each category and their supporters are invited to attend the annual presentation in February each year where all candidates in each award category will receive an inscribed certificate signed by the Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Honorable Hugh Delahunty MLC.
