....providing active participation and opportunities in sport and recreation for all people
Regional Sport & Recreation Program
Sport and recreation plays a vital role in building and strengthening local communities, particularly in rural and regional Victoria. We recognise that small populations and distance can make sustaining local sport and recreation groups difficult.
The Department for Planning and Community Development, through Sport and Recreation Victoria, funds the Supporting Country Sport Program (previously known as the Regional Sports Assembly Program) to help provide volunteer support, information and training and development opportunities to local clubs in rural and regional Victoria.
Funding is provided to Regional Sports Assemblies, a network of nine not-for-profit community-based organisations located throughout regional Victoria to:
• Produce and distribute relevant and up-to-date information to local sport and recreation clubs and organisations on sport and recreation issues and opportunities
• Provide volunteer support and club development opportunities for local sport and recreation
• Support State Sporting Associations to deliver activities and projects in rural and regional Victoria
The Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly through its Board and Committee of Management uses a community development approach to provide programs and services across the five local government areas (Hindmarsh, Horsham Rural City, Northern Grampians, West Wimmera and Yarriambiack) that will encourage and facilitate involvement of all population groups in sport and recreation.
