Jeff Pekin Valued Volunteer 2008

Rachel Hateley presents Jeff Pekin with the Valued Volunteer Award

A dual life member of the Imperials Junior Football Club and the Horsham Table Tennis Association, Jeff has taken on a myriad of administrative, coaching and other more general volunteer roles with these organisations.  His efforts have enabled many participants of all ages and abilities to engage in and enjoy their sport.  Jeff leads by example and has played table tennis with the Horsham Club for almost 40 years since beginning as a very young member.  He has organised and run many tournaments,  even as a junior (which helped keep the association going), and of recent times has taken over the weekly coaching for players of all abilities as well as steering the Annual Kerri Tepper Tournament.

A willing contributor who leads by example, Jeff has been instrumental in supporting the Keen-Agers Program, a non competitive table tennis option for older persons, gaining tournament sponsorship, recruiting volunteers, providing (alongside a lot of his extended family) catering for a range of events and is leading a group of diverse sporting clubs lobbying Horsham Rural City Council for a much needed multi-sports complex.  Jeff is a modest and unassuming man who has time for everyone and has quiet words of encouragement for all.

Also a finalist in the Valued Volunteer of the Year Award was Horsham Swimming Club Coach Kylie Ferguson.  Kylie spends many hours coaching and encouraging swimmers at all levels to do their best and improve their swimming skills.  Since the opening of the Aquatic Centre, her workload has doubled with the swimming club now being active all year round.  According to her club, Kylie is a keen, enthusiastic and supportive coach who gladly shares her knowledge with others.

Sports Foundation grants were presented to Aaron Watts (Motocross), Brylea Swanton (Hockey), Domonic Spicer (Trampolining) and Tamika Edwards (Motocross).
